Longevity

Longevity is written in the DNA of our dogs.  There are many books that have now (sadly) documented the life span of the Great Dane to be 5 - 7 years.  As long as that span is what it procreated on, so shall the span be written in the DNA of future generations.  I am a firm supporter of breeding to dogs who stand the test of time.  Every now and then, we are all thrown a monkey wrench in our plans, things do fluke up on occasion. An occasional fluke up that is NOT a trend is not as disconcerting as a sire who is deceased by 6, whose father and grandfather were also deceased at 6.

My foundation dam Panda lived to be 12 years old. Her mother and the 4 generations behind her lived the same life span.  This is no cooincidence.  19 of Panda's offspring lived 11 - 12 years.

The increase in the saturation rate of heart disease in this breed is remarkable.  There are ongoing University studies, and extensive testing efforts underway to "solve" heart issues in the Great Dane Breed.  So long as the emphasis of selecting breeding stock is placed on "Winners" and young dogs, the "problem" will not be solved. Often times the older veterans are forgotten-- out of sight out of mind when the mindset of the mainstream breeders is focused on the glitz and glamor ads of the big winners.

MY FIRST COMMITTMENT IN THIS BREED IS TO LONGEVITY!!!

Panda and her daughter Maddy above. Patrick's dam and granddam.

Our handsome veteran Patrick who it turning 8 years old. Patrick is double bred on our Panda - he is a grandson to Maddy's half sister Treena pictured to the right here.

Patrick's half sister "Tyra" (Amador's Social Butterfly) they share the same mother Maddy - Tyra turns 9 this Dec. 2013. Pictured below. Tyra is mom of our Lilly.

Our awesome and special boy Scout, our Nikki's son, is pictured below at 10 years old.

LONG LIVE LONGEVITY

Above photo of Heidi, daughter of our Titan, half sister of Patrick, great-granddaughter of our Panda.

Pictured below is Panda's daughter Treena - Amador's Run For The Roses - dam of our Ch. Amador's Titan, and Granddam to our Ch. Patrick.  Treena lived 12 years - same as her brother Recon pictured above.

Another of our lovely and long-lived Panda daughter's pictured below: Nikki - Amador's Burgundy Rose. Nikki lived to be 12 also, she is the mother of our Scout who is 10 years old now in 2013. Scout sired our beautiful Shelby, Amador's Two Of Hearts at the age of 9.  Shelby is our culmination of many years and generations of breeding on the DNA of longevity.
